The super PAC backing Mitt Romney’s Republican nomination bid, Restore Our Future, is investing more in future contests.
The super PAC made its first purchase in Maryland for spots beginning this week. It bought $456,862 worth of broadcast and cable time there and also purchased $47,395 of additional time in Wisconsin bringing its total there to $1,319,025. Both of those states vote in two weeks on April 3rd. Romney campaigns in Maryland on Wednesday.
The ad information was provided to CNN by a Republican media buying source not affiliated with a campaign or super PAC. The source did not want his name used because the information is private.
Rick Santorum is up with a small buy in Wisconsin. On Tuesday his campaign added some cable markets to an existing buy, but his total spent there so far is only $54,770.
Much of the focus for Santorum and his allies focus right now is on Louisiana, which he is on counting on to be friendly territory with its large number of conservative and evangelical voters. The state holds its primary Saturday. He has already campaigned there and will come back to the state on Wednesday and Friday for more events.
Santorum’s campaign just added $30,000 for additional cable ads to bring his total in the state to $170,033. The super PAC backing Santorum, the Red, White and Blue Fund, has put down $374,165 for commercials there. But as it has been able to do in most states voting so far in this campaign the pro-Romney super PAC is outpacing any other entity spending $496,775 in Louisiana for ads that started running weeks ago.
Romney’s campaign has not purchased any ad time in any future primary states.
Neither Newt Gingrich nor the super PAC backing his candidacy, Winning Our Future, so far has purchased ad time in any upcoming contests. Gingrich is campaigning in Louisiana all week.
